Security Screening
Security lines can be a challenge, but there are a few strategies that can help. If you are travelling in first or business class, or you are a top tier member of your airline’s frequent flyer program, or you are in a wheelchair, there is a special dedicated line for security. At many airports, there are multiple checkpoints. If your security line is long, consider going to another checkpoint that may have a shorter wait. To speed up the wait, we suggest the following;
Be prepared. Searches slow down the line. Have items ready to go in the tubs provided by the airport security
Have your passport / ID and boarding card ready
Have all your 3 ounce or less liquid in a quart size ziploc bag. If in doubt, place the item in your checked luggage.
Remove anything with metal, belts, jewelry, accessories and shoes
Remove your jacket, sweater, scarf, shoes and either place them inside your carry on or be prepared to put them on the tray provided
Have your laptop or tablet handy to be placed on the tray if needed.
If you are carrying medications, baby formula, baby food, or breast milk, they must be labelled or declared, if required. They are not required to be in a quart size bag.
Throw away all beverage bottles still with liquid inside like water, soda, coffee, juice, etc.
Pack smart. Do not over pack your hand carry to ensure easy inspection should you be required to open your carry-on.
Do not wrap gifts. If it is an item that the TSA needs to inspect, they will unwrap your gift. Take your gift wrap with you and wrap it after you leave the airport.
